How can you help a rescue?

Rescue organizations cannot exist without the help of volunteers and donations. You can help a rescue organization by:

  • Fostering a dog until it is adopted
  • Calling references
  • Conducting a home visit
  • Donating supplies or food
  • Sending a check to pay for vet bills
  • Joining our organization of volunteers

We welcome new volunteer foster homes:

  • Fosters should have some experience with dogs. Small and toy dogs would be preferable with our rescue.
  • Fosters are house dogs who only go outside to play, walk, or do their business.
  • Fosters must provide their dogs with fresh food and water on a daily basis.
  • Fosters must be able to provide a safe, warm place for the dogs to sleep; be it in a crate or at the foot of the foster’s bed.
  • Fosters yard should be fenced or have a fenced area without escape routes.
  • Foster’s yard and home should be free of debris and hazards at ground level that a small dog could ingest.
  • All members in the foster’s home should be in agreement with having a foster pet in their home.
  • Fosters must be able to take the pet for veterinary care if the animal becomes ill or injured.
  • Fosters must be able to attend adoption events with their foster pet(s) to enable them to be seen and hopefully find their forever homes. If not able to stay the entire event, should be able to pick the pet up after the event to take them back to their foster homes.
  • Mostly, fosters should know that our dogs require patience, love, and tolerance.

If you would like to volunteer click on this link:  membership application or email us at safehavenfurbabies@gmail.com .

Thank you!

Teens and Tweens Program:

Safe Haven also has a Teen and Tweens program for ages 12-17. Volunteers are needed to help us watch, walk, brush, clean up after, and most importantly, love our dogs while showing them to possible adopters. We will teach them everything they need to know and more. If your teens and tweens love small dogs, encourage them to volunteer for a fun loving time.

Contact:  Janice at momdirector@yahoo.com for an application or more information.

Teens are required to fill out the permission form found at this link: teen permission form
